The existing house was a house typical to this area situated on a 610 square metre block – late Federation style with a terracotta tiled roof and red tuck pointed brickwork, and a verandah wrapping around the front room. A rear skillion roof addition was added in the 70’s.

It was decided to retain the original portion of the existing house, utilising the 3 “cell like” front rooms as bedrooms and re-modeling the old bathroom. The 1970’s skillion additional was removed and a contemporary addition was added – linking out from the old house.

In form, the additions consist of a two storey pitched roof element, which is visible from the street, and a series of overlapping flat roof planes, which are not seen from the street. A north facing horizontal band of glass louvres is located between the flat roof planes, flooding the double volume living room with light.
